The Badgers were dragging a four game losing streak behind them as they entered this game with Purdue. The Boilermakers were dangerous, but suffering their own tribulations with a 2-5 record. Barry Alvarez was under heavy scrutiny with this season spilling over from last season.
However, the pressure would finally release with this contest. Ron Dayne had the type of day he needed to get the Badgers back on track. The crowd came in not knowing what to expect. But, few if any would have predicted a 244-yard rushing day for the bulldozer of a running back. Dayne flattened anything in his way. His first touchdown almost resulted in a concussion for the Purdue safety attempting to guard his endzone.
Wisconsin jumped out to a 24-0 lead and the frigid Badger faithful appeared to thaw. Camp Randall was finding its groove again. Even though the Boilermakers worked their way back into the game a bit, it still was one of those situations where every fan knew Wisconsin was in control. The band was rockin’, the fans were energized, Bucky was causing trouble – another wild day in Madison. After the 33-25 victory, the Badgers evened their record at 4-4 holding onto hope for the post-season, while Purdue’s bowl hopes were boiled.
