With the past two games being heart-halting victories for Wisconsin, Camp Randall Stadium was packed and ready early anxious to see what the next installment of Badger drama would arise. With the winless Illini coming to Madison, most hoped that it wouldn’t take another last second prayer to succeed. Luckily, the red-clad faithful got just what they expected. And by the looks of Illinois, so did they.
Running back Ron Dayne tore through the orange and blue keeping the zero intact in their win column with a 31-7 defeat. Illinois had fallen on hard times and with their new coach, Ron Turner, they were hoping for a turn around. Although it was a gorgeous day in Madison, there was little evidence supporting a beautiful day for Illinois. The students were well-oiled and chanting their usual obscenities.
As the fourth quarter came to a close, the skies opened up a bit and rain began to fall. It very well could have been a cloud hovering directly over the Illini as they hung their heads on their walk past the student section and into the locker room. Cleverly, the students provided the soundtrack for this Hollywood-like scene by chanting “Oh and six! Oh and six! Oh and six!” until every trace of orange had disappeared.
