This was the final rendition of the War on I-4. With UCF moving up to the Big 12 for the 2023 season, these two rivals separated by 2 hours of interstate have no future games scheduled. UCF comes in ranked #22 and by contrast, USF only has one win to flaunt this season. But, rivalries traditionally weaken the expectations – anything can happen.

Tulsa is a better team than their under-.500 record suggests. This game against the back-to-back American Athletic Conference champion UCF Knights would be supporting evidence. UCF not only has dominated the conference the past two years, but also represented all “Group of Five” conferences in the 2018 Peach Bowl and 2019 Fiesta Bowl. Although the Knights already dented two notches in the loss column this season, they still represent the conference elite. A win over UCF would be groundshaking.

Central Florida is a young program compared to its college football peers. Fielding its first team in 1979, the Knights grew into an FBS (Division 1) team in 1996. The city of Orlando has embraced UCF football and the fan intensity is proof.
It’s the War on I-4, and the budding rivalry between UCF and USF could not hold more importance. The winner would go to the American Conference championship game. Above that, UCF enters this game undefeated and looking for a New Year’s Six bowl game. This is Orlando’s football team, and with all at stake today, Spectrum Stadium became one of the most electric environments I have experienced.
