Homecoming looked to be doomed. The Hoosiers picked Evanston as the place to showcase their talent this year. Luckily for the Wildcats, the show lasted only one half. Indiana stormed out to a 28-3 lead in the second quarter sending a few Cat fans packing. But, if Wildcat fans have been paying attention over the past decade, Northwestern has a knack for concocting thrilling comebacks and exciting finishes. “Cardiac Cats” is an apt moniker.
As the second half got underway, the Wildcats quietly began chipping away at the Hoosier lead until the cream and crimson found themselves up only by two with just seconds left. The Wildcats were a 19 yard field goal away from restoring joy back to homecoming. As the kick sailed through the goalposts, and Northwestern took their first lead of the day, fans expressed their delight in the form of relief as the master escape artists found a way to pull another miracle from the bag. Ryan Field should look into having free heart check-ups as fans exit the gates. That would be appropriate for this place.
