Old school Army football came back to Michie Stadium on senior day in West Point. Run, run, run, and zero passing yards. This is a departure from a heightened effort to integrate more balance in the offense this season. Proof that the classics never die. On the other side of the field, Coastal Carolina aired out the ball nearly as often as Army ran it. It was a blunt clash of cultures.
The light rain that misted through the air during the Parade on the Plain gave way to blue skies for kickoff. Senior Day ceremonies, the March On, and parachute jump provided the perfect militaristic pomp. Army’s return to helmet on helmet offense proved lucrative as they accumulated 365 rushing yards and four scores. The Chanticleers just couldn’t keep up with Army’s ground and pound offense and suffocating defense. The Black Knights closed the 2023 season at Michie with a 28-21 victory.
Coastal Carolina still has hopes for a conference championship game appearance with one game remaining on the schedule. Army’s dreams of a bowl grow brighter as they prepare for their annual battle with Navy in three weeks. Screams of “Beat Navy!” began to echo along the Hudson as anticipation grows for one of the greatest rivalries in sports.
