Game #371: FIU @ Connecticut

Homecoming at UConn had the fanfare at high levels as troops of  Husky followers built a wide stretch of tents around The Rent to pregame with avidity. UConn came in with a tenuous winning record, while FIU felt like a big opportunity for the home team. The Husky Walk drew a large crowd ready to welcome the team. A beautiful day in East Hartford inspired a nice crowd optimistic for a victory.

Joe Fagnano was the hero. His four touchdown day torched the Panthers. FIU had no answer, and a 51-10 blowout had UConn fans looking ahead with wide eyes. The Victory Bell rings after each score to count the amount of points on the scoreboard. It was busy. At game’s end, the total clang count reached 255. Homecoming was a happy one.

A fantastic day concluded with a noteworthy milestone. Beating FIU gave Coach Jim Mora his 100th career win, which triggered a tribute video on the scoreboard featuring numerous sports celebrities sharing love for the coach. Surrounded on the field by the team, hugs and handshakes punctuated a day filled with UConn joy. Optimism is in hand.
