Game #376: #23 Washington @ Wisconsin

Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell began the season riddled with question marks. Last year’s losing season broke the Badgers’ 23-year bowl game streak. Entering this season, Wisconsin faced one of the nation’s toughest schedules and the win column suffered. Many fans wanted Fickell out. But, two days prior to this game, the administration announced his return for next season. The players celebrated this decision the most, and they would demonstrate that on the field today.

A cold and gray afternoon spilled into a wintery mix evening. The Badgers defense played as grittily as the weather. Washington went up 10-3 in the second quarter, but Wisconsin locked down. The offense struggled – the leader passer was the punter. Despite a meager yard total by the offense, the Badgers were able to produce just enough to best the Huskies.

As the clock ticked to zero, students poured out of the stands to join a massive celebration on the field. After all, this was Wisconsin’s first victory over a top 25 team since 2021. Confidence in Fickell inspired confidence on the field. The hope is that this trend continues next season when the schedule for the Badgers eases up considerably.
