The Grove is a ten acre space shaded by oaks, elms, and magnolias providing an elegant backdrop for thousands of Ole Miss tailgaters. Sporting News calls it “The Holy Grail of tailgating sites.” People stake their claim the night before and set up elaborate tailgates on gameday.
Elegance is the word. While red, white, and blue tents take every foot of usable space, it’s what’s in those tents that set a new standard: chandeliers, candelabras, sterling silver, and high class fare are a unique component to this tailgating experience.
The sophistication is extended through Gameday apparel. Many come dressed in their Sunday best – button down shirts, bow ties, sundresses, and high heels. Don’t be mistaken – this doesn’t strip away the raucous nature of this place. This is the SEC – passion lives here.
That passion erupts as the team paraded through The Grove on their Walk of Champions toward Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The masses then shift toward the middle of The Grove where The Pride of the South blasts “Forward Rebels” and “Dixie” loudly and proudly.
Unity is on display anytime you hear someone yell, “Are You Ready!?!?” Anyone within hearing distance will stop in their tracks and scream out:
Hell Yes! Damn right!
Hotty Toddy! Gosh Almighty!
Who the hell are we? Hey!
Flim Flam! Bim! Bam!
Ole Miss by damn!
This battle cry continues inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as it is shouted by the masses. Nicknamed “The Vaught,” this state landmark has been hosting Rebel football since 1915. Renovations have not stripped the charm of this classic college arena. Rather, it has enhanced the tradition and power of this venerable place. Football in the south is special.
