Torrents of rain crept into West Point canceling much of the pregame pomp that traditionally precedes kickoff. But, soggy turf and slick stands didn’t keep the sizable crowd from filling Michie Stadium for Boston College’s visit to Army. Even though favored to win, the Black Knights would require a formidable effort against the scrappy Eagles.
Prior to kickoff, one Army fan told me that the Black Knights tend to struggle when facing a mobile quarterback. Cue Thomas Castellanos. The electric leader for the Eagles gave Army headaches all afternoon. Boston College commanded the scoreboard for the majority of the battle. Army took the lead early in the fourth, but it would be Castellanos’s fourth rushing touchdown with 25 seconds remaining that would secure the 27-24 victory adding more misery to the soaked fans in Michie Stadium.
Overall, it was just an odd day in West Point. Nothing quite seemed in sync with the weather thwarting the traditional gameday routine. But, a classic game ensued nonetheless, and Boston College came away with a much needed victory. Army has opportunities ahead, but will have to weather the storm to get to a bowl.
