Ryan Field, the 98-year old home of the Wildcats, has been demolished. While Northwestern fans wait for the new version of Ryan Field to be completed in 2026, a unique temporary home has been constructed along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. The intimate 12,000 seat Martin Stadium offers picturesque views of Chicago’s skyline against the waters of this famous Great Lake. Tonight’s battle against Duke is the venue’s first prime time event.
Since 2016, Northwestern has met Duke five times each ending in disappointment. The Wildcats come in with a renewed sense of purpose after a surprising 8-5 finish to last season. Many folks dismissed the ‘Cats after the hazing scandal that rocked campus in the summer of 2023. Now, anything feels possible as second year head coach David Braun takes charge. Duke also comes in shouldering much confidence as hopes run high for the Blue Devils program this season.
A low scoring defensive clash featured sloppiness and turnovers. Tied at 13, the game entered overtime with momentum uncertain. Both teams traded quick touchdowns to force a second overtime. The Blue Devils scored first and shut down Northwestern on their possession. The Duke sideline erupted now having notched six straight against the Wildcats. The packed purple crowd filed out with faces of quiet dejection knowing that more than just the new stadium is under construction.
