Since joining the Big Ten in 2014, Maryland has not yet defeated Wisconsin. Coming into Madison without having suffered a loss this season, The Terrapins had a confidence that the Badgers seemed to lack. Wisconsin hasn’t been itself since missing a bowl game last season. Losing their starting quarterback to kick off the season left the Badgers deflated. Maryland would pounce.
Luke Fickell has struggled to make his mark in Madison, and fans are getting restless. Expectations for Fickell were to take the Badgers to a playoff level of competition, but everything has gone in reverse. Maryland would add to Wisconsin’s descent. The Terps went up 20-0 at half, which inspired a flurry of Badger boos and an incessant “Fire Fickell” chant.
Maryland moves to 4-0 on the season raising some eyebrows throughout the conference. Badger fans emptied Camp Randall in the fourth quarter after “Jump Around” concluded, where the jumps felt a little more like weak hops. The brutal road ahead for the Badgers brought a fog of gloom on this beautiful late summer day. Another bowlless season appeared imminent.
