Game #370: Western Kentucky @ Delaware

Delaware’s first nationally televised game in ten years would be one to remember. The royal blue and gold packed Delaware Stadium with tremendous anticipation. As one fan mentioned, the atmosphere felt reminiscent of past FCS playoff games. The cool autumnal weather and packed parking lots of tailgaters set the scene for a classic evening of college football.

The Blue Hens scored first and appeared to have control with a 7-point lead at the half. However, a quick pick-six in the third gave Western the lead and the momentum. Down 10 in the fourth, things seemed bleak for Delaware. A late rally provided hope, but two squandered 4th downs would close the door concluding with a field goal attempt that drifted right as time expired sending the Hilltoppers to erupt from the bench as they escaped with a 27-24 triumph.

Despite the deflating defeat for Delaware, this program has proven its FBS worth. The move up to the next level has delivered a new sense of energy to the college town of Newark. The fanbase has always been a devoted one, but with a new horizon of opportunities, Delaware Stadium now holds a different magic. The Fightin’ Blue Hens have a dazzling future ahead, with many chances to showcase why this program belongs.
