An overcast day after Halloween in Monroe, Louisiana had Warhawk fans gathering with less spirit than the season opener. Having lost four straight, the band had a little less pep and the team walk had a little less strut. But, gameday is gameday and Old Dominion was making its first ever visit to Malone Stadium.
The Monarchs had been playing well led by QB Colton Joseph. He wouldn’t disappoint today providing over 300 yards of offense and leading ODU to a 31-6 victory and bowl eligibility. Malone Stadium just continued to get quieter and emptier as the game progressed. Make it five straight losses for the Warhawks.
ULM football has been a rough sell this season. Interest has been floundering. However, the south end zone kept the party going. This wide open area allows for tailgating to be brought inside the stadium. Lawn chairs and coolers were dragged in and set up – a good gimmick to keep fans in attendance despite a poor product on the field. ULM has got a long way to go, but a scrappy bunch of fans will be ready to expand and cheer when the Warhawks break though.
