UB Stadium dots the map slightly northeast of Buffalo in the town of Amherst, New York. Originally known as the Bisons, the Bulls have fielded a football team since 1894 with the exception of a seven year hiatus in the 1970s. Upon reentry to the gridiron in 1977, Buffalo climbed the ladder back to FBS level in 1999. Winning the 2008 MAC championship brought more national recognition to an often dormant team. Gamedays in Amherst continue to be a celebration of Buffalo pride.
A drumline beat on campus signals the nearness of a pregame tradition. Fans collect outside UB Stadium to await the Buffalo team as they make their arrival. The UB Marching Band leads the way as hoots, hollers, horns, and hoopla guide the team toward the locker room. Shades of blue and black trickle around to take in the scene.
Once inside, UB Stadium proves to be a sizable structure. Fans have to really use their lungs to make their voices heard as the wide running track divides fans from where the football sidelines begin. However, cheer squads close that gap pointing their energy to the crowd to ensure engagement. Victor E. Bull sprints to various corners to bring the hype and delight to onlookers.
The University at Buffalo Marching Band fills the atmosphere with sound and silliness. Always upbeat regardless of the scoreboard, they bring a lift to UB gamedays. Familiar songs and Buffalo classics remind fans that college football is a sport set apart due to the stylings of a wily marching band.
Buffalo football may not be a stalwart program, but the Bulls provide flair to the sporting world in western New York. UB Stadium has housed a love for their team since 1993, and no signs point to that slowing down. Proud to display every success it’s had achieved, the Buffalo Bulls have made their mark on the college football landscape.
